Styles of Latin Dance
Salsa in the Top End is growing rapidly in popularity. Since 1998 "SALSITA" Dance School has been keeping the trend and the interest of Territorians alive. Salsa is a contagious, addictive dance that has taken the World by storm and we intend to make the Northern territory a part of it. Salsita Dance School focuses in five of the most popular Latin Dance Styles:

LA Style: Salsita Dance School's core dancing style is based on the LA Style. LA style is an energetic, sexy and very addictive.
The L.A. style as it is known today was pioneered by what many consider some of the most famous and influential people in dance. Alberto Torres, Laura Canellias andJoe Cassini, rightfully deserve much of the credit for the early development and growth of L.A. Style Salsa.
Salsa is a dance for Salsa music created by Spanish-speaking people from the Caribbean. Salsa dancing mixes African and European dance influences through the music and dance fusions that are the roots of Salsa: Son, Guanguanco, Rumba, Boogaloo, Pachanga, Guaracha, Plena and Bomba.
The history of "Salsa" dance is peppered with hearsay and contradiction. However, few would disagree that the music and dance forms originate largely in Cuban-Son.
Salsa is normally a partner dance, although there are recognized solo forms, line dancing Suelta, and Rueda-de-Casino where groups of couples exchange partners in a circle. Salsa can be improvised or performed with a set routine.
The modernization of the Mambo in the 1950s, itself based on Cuban-Son, was influential in shaping what would become salsa. The three-step base of Cuban-Son provides the basis of the modern salsa dance. Salsa is one of the main dances in both Cuba and Puerto Rico and is known worldwide.

Cuban Salsa or Rueda-de-Casino: In the 1950s Salsa Rueda (Rueda de Casino) was developed in Havana Cuba.
Rueda de Casino is an ideal recipe to bring live to parties is originated from Cuba.
Rueda (as it is commonly called in Cuba) is a form of Casino danced in a circle formation with 2 or more couples exchanging partners when one person calls out the move names ("Rueda" is Spanish for “Wheel”, and “Casino” is known outside of Cuba as “Salsa”).
“Rueda de Casino” started in Cuba in the mid 20th century and it is the roots of what you can see danced in Miami and around the world today. In Cuba, the people used to get together in large halls, called “Casinos”, hence the name. Some say it started in Santiago de Cuba, others say it started in the famed Casino Deportivo in Havana, or the Casino de la Playa, I don’t know for sure, I wasn’t there! When the casinos were closed, people still referred to the dance style by using the name of the places where people used to gather to do it: "casino" and the name stuck. Nowadays people refer to the music as "salsa" and the dance as "casino".
Bachata: Bachata is a form of music and dance that originated from Dominican Republic. Its subjects are often romantic; especially prevalent are tales of heartbreak and sadness. In fact, the original term used to name the genre used to be "amargue" ("bitterness," or "bitter music"), until the term Bachata became popular. In some rural areas of the Dominican Republic, Bachata means trash, but most citizens agree that it means a party.
Zouk-Lambada: Like many other couple dances(i.e. Salsa Merengue, Tango, Bachata) has evolved into what it is today... one of themost beautifull Latin dance styles.
Also referred to as Lambazouk, Lambada Zouk and quite simply as Zouk in Brazil, this modern version of the Lambada evokes the body and mind into a trance like state for the dancer, leaving the spectator mesmerised.
With the lush adopted tropical rhythms from the French Caribbean and Lusophone countries, Cape Verde and Angola (referred to as Zouk Love, the only name possible for these exotic sounds; other known names include Kizomba, Cabo Love and Kompa), the dance took on a whole new sensuality. Hailing from a seaside fishing turned tourist town Porto Seguro, Bahia Brazil, the dance was able to touch the rest of the world.
Zouk-Lambada is a dance that is hitting the dance-floors across the world, It's funky, It's hot and it's sexy!!!

Merengue: Originated in Angola (West Coast of Africa and former Portuguese colony), Introduced in central and South America in the times of slave trade. Merengue, is a fun dance easy to pick-up the steps and great for parties, making it the ideal for the beginner.
